Guitar Course Information
Lessons are offered in both classical and contemporary guitar styles. All ages are welcome, beginner to advanced. Classical guitar lessons will follow the Royal Conservatory of Music graded system, while contemporary guitar lessons will follow the PGS curriculum and are broken into 3 levels:
Students will be taught how to properly hold and tune their instrument, the rudiments of music, how to read standard notation, and proper technique while learning to play chords, scales and songs in the open position. Upon completion the student will have developed the skills to play and perform many traditional and pop/rock songs from artists such as The Beatles, Elton John, Bryan Adams, The Eagles, and many others.
Students will continue to develop their sight-reading and technical skills while learning to play movable arpeggios, chords, scales and songs in many positions, and be introduced to the art of improvisation. Upon completion the student will have developed the skills necessary to play and perform in a blues, country, or rock band through the study of artists such as Jimi Hendrix, Chuck Berry, Eric Clapton, Stevie Ray Vaughan, and many others.
Students will further develop their sight-reading, technique, and improvisation skills while learning music theory through the practical demonstration of the use of advanced scales, chords and arpeggios, and be able to play many songs in all positions and keys through the study of Charlie Christian, Joe Pass, Pat Metheny, Robben Ford, and many others. Upon completion the student will have developed the skills to play and perform in the jazz style as well as other popular styles and be well prepared for acceptance into any college or university level music program.
